A Busy, Busy Week.

In addition to working on our Animal Banner Projects we had two field trips and Festival of the Arts last week. Wow! It went fast. Here are the blogs the kids wrote about some of the things we did.

The Montshire Museum

Water Park-
by Lumi
The Water Park is a stream of water surrounded with brick. At the end there is a mini waterfall and in another place you can put pipes on a fountain and it squirts on people. My grade went there and Abby, Kenzie and I got soaked. There was also a crank that you had to wind up to get a ball out. Then you let it go down the stream and then it goes down the mini waterfall and that's where you get the ball out.

Fantastic Fossils
By Kyle
Hi! This is Kyle. The one who did "Heavy Gas". We went to the Montshire Museum. That is why I want to do "Fantastic Dinosaur Fossils". We went to the fossils section and we saw an enormous dinosaur bone (leg). We found out that Tyrannosaurus was 40 feet long. We saw a dinosaur skeleton. It was a meat eater because I saw the teeth.
We also had a session about fossils. We saw a woolly mammoth tooth. It was shaped like a brick. We made our own fossils out of shells and clay and plaster.

Interesting Hike
By Colm
Mom, Seamus, Hayden and I went on an interesting hike. It was called Blood Brook Trail. We saw a mole. We saw a lake. There was supposed to be a dead deer there but we didn't find it. We had fun.
The End

Copper Cannon

River Walk
By Hanzon
Tuesday, June 5th, 2008 my class went to Coper Cannon Camp. There we met other second graders from around the area. The river walk is where you go to a river where you find insects. We found out from the bugs we found that the river was not polluted. Things that kids saw were wolf spiders, stick spiders, dead fish and a beaver dam. Did you know that spider web silk is ten times stronger than steel?!

Team Building

By Skyler
Hi my name is Skyler. At Copper Cannon there was a really fun chicken game. Bawk, bawk. There were two teams in your one group. One team bunched up and a person ran around. When they got around once, you got a point. You try to get as many points as you can.
Meanwhile the other team gets the chicken. The team makes a line. One person who has the chicken goes over their head and the next person has to go under them and so on. Then when they get to the end of the line the end of the line person throws the chicken.

Then there is a game that does not have the chicken involved. But it has a hula hoop in it. It was a really fun game.

Scavenger Hunt
By Dylan
My topic is Copper Cannon Scavenger Hunt. We saw two garter snakes and we found some snake skin. There were tons of lupines. We had certain colors to look for for the scavenger hunt. My color was blue. I found tons of lupines that were the color of blue that I was trying to find.

Festival of the Arts

Florida
By Amie
Hello, my name is Amie and on Friday we had Festival of the Arts. When we went to Florida, the jumpy house was down so we had to play rocket shoot and right when it was up, time was up so we went to the other state and we went back to jump in the jumpy house. It was so fun. We also had ice cream at the end of the day. I had fudge. I love Festival of the Arts!

Paper Airplanes
by Shea
In Festival of the Arts there was one station that you made paper airplanes. (The state for that station was North Carolina.) They kept track of the records for the longest in the air and the highest. My paper airplane kept in the air for a long time. I think you should bend the tip two times and put a lot of paper clips on.

North Carolina
By Hayden
The first station purple went to was North Carolina. We made paper airplanes. We did it because the Wright Brothers invented the first airplane. The first airplane only flew for 12 seconds. We got to make our own designs or use one from the directions. My airplane made the deadliest crash.

Picnic
By Kenzie
Hi, my name is Kenzie. Do you have Festival of the Arts? We did this last Friday. If you do, isn't it fun?!
This year we had USA. Last year we had the Human Body. I'll get to the point.
We have a picnic every year but the worst thing this year was it was raining and we had to have the picnic inside. We had hamburgers and hotdogs. Tinker is our chef. She's the best. She makes the juiciest hamburgers!
We had nine centers. I was sick but I still went.
Bye. Thank you for reading my blog.

Hawaii
By Maire
I really like the dunk tank, the limbo stick, the pictures, the flower necklaces and the real hawaiian fruit punch. At the dunk tank you threw balls at this target and if you didn't hit it in three tries you got to push it. And there was a person on there that would fall in the water. It was really, really, really fun!
But we did not go to the real Hawaii. But it was fun anyway. But it was only a station at Festival of the Arts that I really, really, really liked.

Golf
by Abby
One station was golf. There was a velcro thing that had the numbers 1, 3, and 5 on it. 1 was the hole in one.
What you do is you try to get it on the one. You don't want to get a high score. You try to get a pretty low score. The state for golf was California. It was fun!

Race Cars
By Seamus
My favorite Festival of the Arts stations was Indiana. It was fun. You have two scooter boards with a mat on top. You sit on top of the mat as someone pushes you around the cones.
